Tripping, Slipping, and Learning: The Fun in Stepping Beyond Your Comfort Zone

Let's be real - stepping outside of your comfort zone is scary! But it can also be a whole lot of fun. So, in the spirit of lightheartedness, let's talk about some of the hilarious things that can happen when we take on new challenges and work outside of our comfort zone.

First up, we have the classic "oops" moments. You know the ones - when you're so focused on trying to learn a new task or skill, that you forget to pay attention to the little things. Like that time you accidentally sent an email to the entire company instead of just your boss, or the time you forgot to mute yourself during a Zoom call and everyone heard you ordering coffee in the drive-thru.

Then there are the wardrobe malfunctions. I personally experienced this recently at a conference when my cute brand new dress apparently had straps longer than my short shoulders could sustain! Sometimes working outside of your comfort zone also means dressing in a way that is outside of your usual style. Or sometimes it means you throw on a long chic cardigan to cover up the fact that your dress is falling too low in the front, especially when you get to chat with one of your favorite authors during a book signing! (C'mon, I can't be the only person this has ever happened to?). Maybe you're wearing a suit when you're used to jeans and a t-shirt, or high heels when you usually wear sneakers. And we've all had those moments where we trip over our own feet or spill coffee on our freshly dry cleaned shirt.

But the best part of working outside of your comfort zone is the feeling of accomplishment when you finally succeed. That feeling of pride and excitement when you finally nail that new task or skill that you've been working on. It's like scoring the winning goal in a soccer match or acing a difficult test - that rush of adrenaline and satisfaction is unbeatable.

So, while working outside of your comfort zone can be scary and challenging, it can also be a lot of fun. Embrace the oops moments, laugh at the wardrobe malfunctions, and celebrate the moments of success. Who knows - you may even discover a new passion or talent that you never knew you had!
