The Uncomfortable Transformation
Recently I watched a training led by John C. Maxwell. For those who aren't familiar with that name, he's a New York Times Best-Selling Author, speaker, and pastor. He is considered the World's leading authority on leadership development, and he is one of my favorite humans on this beautiful planet. His heart is so genuine when he speaks and teaches, and he is one of the most intentional Servant Leaders I've come across. The training was discussing values and at one point he just said the simplest sentence that stuck with me.
"Transformation begins with me."
It's not like we don't know that... but do we? Whether you're trying to grow in your career, forge a new relationship, or even start a new business... whatever the goal that you/ your heart is focused on, it has to begin with YOU. Everyday we're changing and evolving, for better or worse. We're getting older by the second and change is inevitable. But change doesn't have to be a bad thing, it's an opportunity to shed old skin and transform into something better. Remember, everything is always happening FOR you, not 'to' you.
There's a big difference in having confidence, and having "self-worth". Confidence is great; it means you believe in your skills and abilities! Self-worth however means you believe in yourself.... you know and feel that you have value. And trust me, you DO have value in this life.
My favorite book of JCM's to recommend for personal growth is "15 Invaluable Laws of Growth". Another amazing book to pick up is "Worthy" by Jamie Kern Lima. Just imagine how amazing life could be if you leaned further into the uncomfortable transformation process to become the person you're meant to be. I'm not sure who else needed this message and reminder, but I know I am not alone. You can't necessarily control factors external to you (like your home, job, family) but you CAN control you - or at least influence and cultivate your mindset and belief systems. The change- the transformation- that you're looking for, is right inside of you waiting to be nurtured and watered to grow.
I believe in you- I truly do- but it doesn't matter what I believe. You have to believe in yourself first.
